Selling is not open to the general public but buying certainly is. This can be a good quality or a bad quality largely depending which side of the fence you are on. If you are a seller than this site is probably not for you unless you have a registered business.  If you are a buyer than this site has oodles of deals that you may find perfect.

Fees

Another unique quality about ubid.com is that the buyer never has to pay any fees. The fees are generated by the seller. The fees for the sellers look like this:

Buying on Ubid.com

You can buy items on ubid.com outright in some cases so if sitting around bidding is not your thing but you still want some deep discounts than this is a good place to visit. There are tons of categories that are chockfull of items for sale.

There is plenty too choose from. You do need a valid credit card to register and to bid but your card is not charged until you actually purchase or win something.

Buyer beware though some folks have found that not everything is as it seems to be. For example a reviewer at my3cents.com left this angry tirade about ubid.com “Ubid sells "a genuine Italian leather coat" for a silly price (1$ !) They charge $38.99 for shipping (light and medium sized package !) I receive the item, and it is a piece of garbage, made in you-know-where. So, even if I wanted to go through the Ubid's "return process ", I would lose $38.99, plus a 15% restocking fee (not much in this case, but when you buy a $1000 TV....).  There was more but well lets say it did not get any better. This reviewer was disappointed to say the least.

Other Consumers

The BBB received 132 complaints about ubid.com which is average considering the size of the company.  Here are some of the unhappy buyers comments “Stay away from Ubid! I ordered this portable TV. It didn't work, and they said there was a 30 day warranty. They did not respond at all, until I disputed the credit card. Now they sent me an RMA, but say 15% restocking fee on a defective product, and I pick up the shipping charge! I'll probably just lose my money, don't lose yours!” From resellerratings.com also from the same site “Ordered a Magallen GPS took 7 days to receive the order! The unit would not work. Ubid will not exchange the unit said I would have to take it up with Magallen it took Ubid five days just to tell me that.So they wont take it back. Magallen wont do anything so, I bought another unit from another supplier that works! Wont buy from ubid ever again.”

Overall, the Ubid reviews show that this is a viable site and is not a scam, however there seem to be better deals on big ticket items on sites like Auction Resource
